No man also seweth a piece
of new cloth on an old garment : else the new piece that filled it up taketh
away from the old, and the rent is made worse.
Mark, 2, 21
Of course, we have got a lot of ancient vestments
in our vestries ; they are often beautiful, but in such a pitiful state !
Above all, do they talk to men, women and children
today ?
There are plenty of images to think up, and vestments,
and objects too, for the service of liturgy.
Some examples :
There are more and more permanent deacons in Catholic Church,
and they play an increasing role in heralding the Word of God ; so when they
put on their stole, they deserve better than a priest stole that would
have been put diagonally: what does mean a cross which leans
to the right ?
So I design stoles
for their specific needs.
Furthermore I think about vestments for funeral-chairing lay persons. It is important for them that they should be acknowledged by all the congregation, without being taken for the priest.
And also, when little children get christened, they often come to church being clothed with their white vestment. What a pity to miss that rite that consists in "donning Christ" during celebration of baptism ! So I propose a two-parts robe : one is colored, the other is white.
As you see, the field is wide !
